Known for decades to a long list of keyboard artists including Steely Dan's Donald Fagan, Tori Amos, Adam Macdougall (Black Crowes), Benmont Tench (Tom Petty), George Duke and many more as the primary name in vintage keyboard repair, restoration and maintenance, keyboard craftsman Ken Rich has now taken another step forward. Rich recently joined forces with engineer Tim Warneck of Warneck Research, the product development arm of full service vintage keyboard and amplifier repair and restoration company Keyboard Cottage LLC, to develop quality electronics and parts for the vintage keyboard market.
Rich and Warneck were originally introduced to each other by mutual friend Michael Smokowicz of Trek II Products. Extensive dialog between the two around Warneck's prototype design of a new Wurlitzer model 200 amplifier board ultimately led to the production of what many consider to be the finest EP 200 board in the marketplace today. Additional replacement electronics and enhancements for vintage Wurlitzer and Rhodes Electric Pianos that far surpass the capabilities and performance specs of the original equipment are currently available from Warneck Research, and a significant list of Rich/Warneck designed products is on the drawing board. Both Rich and Warneck are quick to point out that while they are not business partners in a formal or legal sense, they are truly partners in their mutually shared desire to create quality products and quality electronics for musicians. Rich Sound Services and Warneck Engineering are independent and separate companies, working together to improve the quality of products and services offered in the vintage keyboard industry. The companies and their founders share similar strong beliefs about quality, integrity, and customer service. "Instead of making up technology on the fly, I've been servicing musical instruments for over 33 years, and have worked and trained with the developers of these instruments since the time that they were state-of-the-art," notes Rich. " I believe no one is an island, and it takes a team of individuals who truly care about the artist and musician first and foremost and not look at them as just an avenue for making money." "Ken and I are proud to start offering carefully researched and designed replacement parts and electronic enhancements for vintage keyboards", says Warneck. "We're working hard to prove that in the vintage keyboard market, there is a difference." For more informat... Click here to read the rest of the article from Keyboard Magazine
